Requirements for Receiving Working Tax Credits
If you are currently residing in the UK, you may have heard about working tax credit and are wondering if you are eligible. Well to find out if you are, here is the description for the different group of persons eligible for this kind of working tax credits over 60.
Before looking at who can receive this form of tax credit, let us first define what is working tax credit. Working tax credit or WTC is basically a payment that is given to persons receiving a low income from their source of employment. The money is paid by Her Majesty Revenue and Customs or HMRC and it is normally deposited directly into the person’s building society account, bank account or post office card account.
In order for you to be eligible for the Working Tax Credits, you must either be employed or self employed and be paid for your work. You should also be expected to continue working for no less than the next 4 weeks. In addition to these two requirements here are a few other cases in which you will be eligible:
• If you are 16 years or older, work at least 16 hours each week and are responsible for the care or one or more children or
• If you are 16 years or older, work for no less than 16 hours each week and have a disability or
• If you are 25 years or older and work for 30 hours or more, in this case you don’t have to be responsible for a child, instead the amount you receive for your income will determine your eligibility.
• If you are 50 years or more and are just resuming work after having received certain types of benefits for no less than 6 months and work at least 16 hours each week.
• If you are 60 years or older and work at least 16 hours each week.
